About the product

Gum rosin

Gum rosin (colofónia) is the non-volatile fraction of pine resin. It is solid at room temperature and yellowish in colour.

It consists of resin acids — mainly abietic acid — and is one of the most important natural raw materials used by the chemical industry.

To guarantee customer satisfaction, every lot is tested against the requirements that define its quality: colour evaluation, acid number, softening point and crystallisation, among others.

Product formats

Flakes, crushed and block

History & uses

A raw material with centuries of industry behind it.

Rosin has been tapped from living pine trees for centuries. It was the backbone of the old naval stores trade, where resin and pitch sealed and protected wooden ships. As chemistry industrialised, the same natural resin became a base material for adhesives, coatings and countless formulations.

Today gum rosin remains a renewable, plant-derived feedstock. It is collected by tapping pine trees without felling them, then distilled to separate turpentine from the solid rosin fraction that industry uses.
